Kaua`i Classes
On the island of Kaua’i are three halau under the umbrella of Ka’Imi Na’auao O Hawai`i Nei.
Kahiko Ha Lapa I Hula Alapa’i
The first halau was called Kahiko Halapa’i I Hula Alapa’i and was founded in 1971 by Roselle Keli’ihonipua Bailey under Ka ‘Imi Na’auao O Hawai’i Nei, the eleemosynary research institue since 1977.
In 1995 the halau was renamed Kahiko Ha Lapa I Hula Alapa’i and is now under the direction of Kumu Keahi Manea who has studied Hula with Roselle since 1978. Classes are held in the small parish hall of the Kapaa First Hawaiian Church in old Kapaa Town.
There is one advanced class which meets every Wedsnesday from 5-7 p.m. from September to June. Interested beginners may contact Keahi about new beginners classes. Keahi also provides individual lessons to visitors upon request.

Ha’awi Hemolele ‘O Keakawaiola
Jessi Keakawaiola started dancing hula in 1972 under the direction of Roselle Keli’ihonipua Bailey. After her initial ‘uniki in 1979, she began teaching in ‘Oma’o.
After a six year absence from Kaua’i , she returned home and started her halau Ha’awi Hemolele ‘O Keakawaiola, which means to give freely of the bubbling white water of life. Jessi taught in Koloa until 2005, when she took a leave of absence for health reasons.
Along with teachers of Ka’imi Na’auao O Hawai’i Nei, Jessi will resume instruction each Wednesday. She will be leading a hula basics/introduction to foundation class open to new students which will be held in Puhi and Kapa’a.. She will also teach private lesson at her home studio in ‘Oma’o .

In 1995 the hālau was renamed to Kahiko Ha Lapa I Hula Alapa`i and is now under the direction of Kumu Jane Kawaiolaonamolokama Garma who has studied Hula with Roselle Keli`ihonipua Bailey since the age of five.
Classes are held in the Parish Hall of the Hawaiian Church in Old Kapa`a town.
There is one advanced class, which meets every Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. except during summer vacation. Classes will start again first week of September.
